During this holiday season, Islam promised a number of attacks in New York and other major cities.
As a New-York based newspaper The Epoch Times reported, there was an image that circulated on an Islamic State-backing online chat group named “Army of Mujahideen” that featured an IS beheading photo, on which the kneeling victim was Santa Claus. The picture was plastered on an image of the Regent Street shopping area of London.
The caption read: “Soon on your holidays”, written in English, French and German.
In addition to this, the group also released online images and a propaganda video on which appeared the cities : London, New York, and Vienna, promising attacks “soon on your holidays… very soon,” Kronen Zeitung reports.
On the image of Berlin there was an armed terrorist by the Brandenburg Gate and the caption read: “Berlin will burn.”
The United States State Department even alerted citizens to travel cautiously because of the risk of terrorist attacks throughout Europe.
American citizens were also advised to be cautious during holiday festivals and events. There were widely-reported incidents in France, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Finland which demonstrated the ability of the Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham (ISIS or Da’esh), al-Qa’ida, to carry out terrorist attacks in Europe.
There were a number of casualty attacks last year. At a Christmas market in Berlin, Germany, and at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey on New Year’s Eve. As local governments continue to deal with terrorism, the threat of potential attacks in the future is still in the air. That is why American citizens should be on alert at all times.
Reportedly, the Islamic State doesn’t have a direct and full-time control over its affiliates, and attacks are coordinated by instructing supporters to act out a certain attack, in hopes that some followers will be inspired enough to do that. This lack of hierarchy is what makes these terrorist attacks so difficult to stop.
There was yet another image that depicted the city of New York on fire, wit the written message “We meet for Christmas in New York … soon.” A few days later, one Islamic radical detonated a bomb in the city.
Homeland Security issued the following statement : “We continue to face one of the most challenging threat environments since 9/11, as foreign terrorist organizations exploit the Internet to inspire, enable, or direct individuals already here in the homeland to commit terrorist acts.
Homegrown terror suspects increasingly rely on technology, such as end-to-end encrypted social media applications, to avoid detection.”
Recruits are urged by the terrorist groups to use tools which are easy to find. Some of their tactics include use of vehicle ramming, small arms, straight-edged blades or knives, homemade explosives, and poisons or toxins.
Their main focus seems to be on commercial aviation and air cargo. There are even some violent extremist media which encourage Islamic supporters to launch attacks by using anything they can.
The disturbing thing is hat the United States and the DHS, have elevated a warning, which is not done unless there is a possibility of a terrorist attack or there has already been one.
